Click On Us! OpenWorld Learning’s 1st Annual Fundraiser

Click On Us! raised awareness in the community and $30,000! A total of $60,000 was raised thanks to those inspired by OpenWorld Learning following the event. We were delighted to reach our goal of funding an OpenWorld Learning site. The Cable Center at DU provided the perfect venue for friends and supporters of OpenWorld Learning to gather and exchange ideas. The commitment to turning the lights on in children’s minds and school computer labs was clear. Very special thanks to Event Chairpersons Maggie Morrissey and Jodi Sorensen, and to everyone involved! We hope to see you at our 2nd Annual Click On Us! Fundraiser on October 3, 2007.

OpenWorld Learning Opens 10th Site at Colfax Elementary

The start of OpenWorld Learning at Colfax Elementary has already been a huge success. With 26 students enrolled and only four weeks at the location, 15 students have passed their beginner level. Site leader Lindsey Bush and teachers Anne Dean and Kyle Todd are anticipating that many students will pass their intermediate projects in a few weeks time and the rest of the students will pass their beginner levels.

OpenWorld Learning Partners with Denver Museum of Nature and Science

OpenWorld Learning students and their families enjoyed a special day of fun and learning at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. During a series of Saturdays, computer programmers and engineers of the future attended a Robotics Workshop, IMAX: Roving Mars and the “Engineer It” exhibit. Each student created robots and shared stories regarding the mission and purpose of each robot. Brandon at Castro Elementary said that his robot would gather information in order to make life better for people. The day provided quality time with parents and a gateway to engineering basics. OpenWorld Learning students served as docents in the Engineer It exhibit and a dinner for OpenWorld Learning students and families was hosted by Museum President George Sparks and covered by Univision.
