Teacher (Immediate Openings)

Overview: OpenWorld Learning has immediate openings for part-time part-time Teachers. These 15 hour per week positions are ideal for college students, graduate students, or others seeking fun and rewarding part-time work.

OpenWorld Learning is an award-winning after-school and summer educational program serving children in Denver’s Latino community. OpenWorld Learning teachers turn school computer labs which would otherwise sit locked and empty during after school and summer hours into fun and challenging learning communities. The program serves children in grades 3-5. OpenWorld Learning teaches art, animation, writing, and advanced computer skills, and trains teams of Student Leaders to teach their peers.

OpenWorld Learning provides extensive training and support to its teachers who become part of a dedicated, professional, and fun-loving team. We seek teachers who have an excellent rapport with children and who embody the qualities we work to develop in our students. These include: creativity, a love of learning, compassion, a strong work ethic and a sense of fun. Prior teaching experience is NOT required.

Requirements: Strong teamwork, leadership, and people skills. Experience with children through babysitting, mentoring, coaching, or teaching. Strong computer skills. Strong interest in Latino community. Spanish language skills welcomed, but not required.

Compensation/Hours: Starts at $10/hr. Position averages 15 hours per week (Monday-Thursday 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, additional meetings, planning, and training on Friday afternoons). After gaining experience with OpenWorld Learning, teachers are frequently promoted to Site Leaders in our growing organization.

Site Leader (Immediate Openings)

Overview: OpenWorld Learning periodically has openings for part-time Site Leaders. These 20 hour per week positions are ideal for college students, graduate students, or others seeking fun and rewarding part-time work.

OpenWorld Learning is an award-winning after-school and summer educational program serving children in Denver’s Latino community. OpenWorld Learning teachers turn school computer labs which would otherwise sit locked and empty during after school and summer hours into fun and challenging learning communities. The program serves children in grades 3-5. OpenWorld Learning teaches art, animation, writing, and advanced computer skills, and trains teams of Student Leaders to teach their peers.

OpenWorld Learning provides extensive training and support to its teachers who become part of a dedicated, professional, and fun-loving team. We seek site leaders who have an excellent rapport with children and who embody the qualities we work to develop in our students. These include: creativity, a love of learning, compassion, a strong work ethic and a sense of fun. Prior teaching experience is NOT required.

Requirements: Strong teamwork, leadership, and people skills. Experience with children through either formal or informal settings required. Prefer candidate with strong computer skills and an interest in the Latino community. Spanish language skills welcomed, but not required. Prior teaching or management experience not required, but preferred.

Compensation/Hours: Starts at $12/hr. Position averages 20 hours per week (Monday-Thursday 3:30 pm - 6:45 pm, additional meetings, planning, and training on Friday afternoons).

Assistant Teacher

Overview: OpenWorld Learning’s immediate openings for Assistant Teachers are perfect for high schoolers. These 11-hour-per-week positions offer students with a love of learning an opportunity to work with children in a fun and challenging environment.

OpenWorld Learning teachers turn school computer labs which would otherwise sit locked and empty during after school and summer hours into fun and challenging learning communities. The program serves children in grades 3-5. OpenWorld Learning teaches art, animation, writing, and advanced computer skills, and trains teams of Student Leaders to teach their peers.

OpenWorld Learning provides extensive training and support to its teachers who become part of a dedicated, professional, and fun-loving team. We seek assistant teachers who have an excellent rapport with children and who embody the qualities we work to develop in our students. These include: creativity, a love of learning, compassion, a strong work ethic and a sense of fun. Prior teaching experience is NOT required.

Duties:
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to OpenWorld Learning students and assist OpenWorld Learning teacher with implementation of the OpenWorld Learning program
  • Learn the basics of the MicroWorlds software taught in OpenWorld Learning labs
  • Learn to use scanners, printers, and digital cameras.
  • Teach basic MicroWorlds skills to OpenWorld Learning Students
  • Extend your own MicroWorlds skills through OpenWorld Learning training and self-study and by developing your own MicroWorlds projects
  • Inspire students to develop personally meaningful projects for each level of the OpenWorld Learning curriculum using MicroWorlds and Microsoft Word.
  • Inspire and train OpenWorld Learning Student Leaders to teach their peers.
  • Help create a fun environment by bringing new ideas for break-time activities, snacks, and field trips

Compensation: $7.05/hour

Hours: 11/week

Requirements: High school student. Work-study eligible with award letter. Flair for teaching and working with young people, good computer skills, and demonstrated ability to learn new computer skills.
