Assist Site Leaders and Instructors with students on-site. Volunteers must be available one or more days a week. Volunteers should expect to work the same days each week as consistency is key. Volunteers will be trained by OWL staff to become proficient on our primary software, MicroWorlds. Other duties include supervising kids at snack and recess time, helping with homework, and being a generally encouraging personality for the kids. A free background check and fingerprinting is provided and mandatory.
Office Volunteer- Data Entry
OpenWorld Learning has to keep rigorous records of donations, organizations with whom we work, student performance, and so on. We need a volunteer to come into the office on a regular basis for a couple of hours to help with database entry. Volunteer will be trained on different databases by staff.
Office Volunteer- Gala Auction Items
OWL’s annual Gala and Auction is on October 13th and in the months leading up to the event, we need volunteers to assist with auction item solicitation and documentation. Volunteers will make calls to local restaurants, businesses, and more. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to solicit businesses in person if they prefer. Items need to photographed, have forms created for the event for each item, and logged in our databases.
Events- Gala Committee
The Gala Committee will plan and execute our Annual Gala, our biggest event of the year. Members can work in a variety of capacities including soliciting, picking up, and storing auction items. Other work includes sending thank you notes to benefactors, making center pieces for dining tables, and the general set up of the auction, among others.
Field Trip Host/Career Exploration Panels
Do you work in Tech? Are you a professional programmer, graphic designer, movie maker, roboticist, or something related? Then host a field trip to your business to help inform our students about potential future careers and possibilities available to them in the tech field. Or participate in a career panel at a site to inform students about the work you do and how it relates to what they’re learning.
Office Volunteer – Laptop Formatting
OWL receives a large number of donated old computers to be re-purposed and donated to our students who pass the intermediate level. We need volunteer assistance re-imaging laptops and keeping track of inventory. Volunteers will install new operating systems after a brief training with our staff. The work is straightforward but issues can arise so a background in tech is preferred but not necessary.
Office Volunteer- Clerical and General Upkeep
Volunteers will help with general clerical tasks around the office to keep the organization ahead of deadlines and efficient. This can include copy work, invitation stuffing and sending, and organizing databases. Volunteers will also be asked to assist in the organization of the office, especially our basement in which we store our computers, gives away, a variety of materials we use at our schools and camps.
Graphic Design or Coding Presentation
Got a cool skill you think the students would really enjoy seeing, something that makes you unique in your field? Show it off to our students and expand their imaginations for what the skills they’re learning can lead them to. Set up a site visit with us!
Office Volunteer- Summer Camp Site Supply
Volunteers are needed to help prep and distribute the many supplies we use at our Summer Camps around the city. This includes gathering materials, replacing those that are missing, and delivering these goods to our numerous sites. There is also room to be creative and come up with ideas for fun, easy crafts or toys that the students can enjoy.
Office Volunteer- Curriculum Development
OWL is looking for a volunteer with teaching experience to help standardize, overlook, and edit our school year and Summer Camp curriculum in conjunction with our team.
Office Volunteer- Marketing Assistant
Work with our Marketing and PR Specialist VISTA to assist with market research, development, and the distribution of marketing materials. Experience in marketing or public relations is preferred. Skills with Photoshop and InDesign also preferred but not necessary.
